Last night I saw the movie A Man Named Otto, starring Tom Hanks, and produced by his wife Rita Wilson. This is an adaptation from the Swedish novel by Fredrik Backman published in 2012 that was later adapted into a 2015 foreign film of the same name directed by Hannes Holm. The disgusting bigotry I see in this movie review and comments just takes my breath away. How do you sleep at night with so much hate in your heart for people who just want to live their lives being their authentic self and the gender they believe they are? How exactly are trans people hurting you when they just ask you to acknowledge them for who they are?
I doubt you define who you are by just YOUR genitalia alone. Therefore, you should give people the freedom to exist as they believe, no matter what genitalia they have as well. Men are more than their penis and women are more than their vagina, and if you believe that those parts alone define what makes a man and a woman, then you live a sad existence.
Perhaps if people would just mind their business and just love one another, Hollywood wouldn't have to "shove the acceptance of people different from you down your throats". Hooray to Tom and Rita for including this topic in their movie since it obviously is a message that still needs to be heard by many people around the world......
Now go hug your children....and I hope you still love them unconditionally if they tell you they are transgender.
I started watching this movie today. I was annoyed at the "trans" character being promoted, and then when I got to the part where he shares the "meme" about his dad kicking him out for being trans, I just stopped watching it. I won't support a movie that promotes this nonsense. So sad, I guess I'll read a spoiler and at least find out what happened.
I must say this “group” is disgusting…..all this talk of God and yet you ignore what Jesus commands of all of us……………to love. Remember faith, hope and love; these three BUT the greatest is love. Love before faith. Don’t live by fear. ❤️
How can people think god made a mistake by putting cancer in people's bodies? Cancer isn't real and is a cult created by people to make us get cancer-affirming surgeries. It's all a lie.
It took both my wife and I by surprise as we watched. When the scene hit, we promptly turned off the movie, even though it was good up until that part. Shame on hanks, shame on wilson. Just what the world doesn’t need. More trans grooming to confuse and ruin the mental health of our children. A full on endorsement from the former best actor of a generation. Pathetic. Also pathetic that everyone is falling all over themselves for like .1 pct of the population (for real). And the “regular” gay people are being cast down, just like real women in sports and other arenas of life.
What is wrong with people open your eyes that your "God" gave you be transgender is not a cult or the "devil's work" it's a part of your brain scientist's have proved it, we are real people I hope you never have to feel the pain the the gay and trans youth have to go through, and just remember what a transgender kid said when your in a nursing home and no one will visit you. You can ask my birth mom what it's like to be lonely and your kids hate you and won't even look at you. And you ask my 81 year old grandmother what it's like to be proud of her transgender grandson that loves her and cares for her and put his life on hold so he can be there to make sure she is taken care of and be there for her last days.
It's a shame to see what could have been helpful representation of a homosexual character be washed away for a trans character to take over. I think many gay and lesbian people would find this to be par for the course with how they've been treated in the past 10 years by people who used to be their peers. Drop the T; as the T has already dropped you.
The Swedish original version of this film was wonderful. Complex and moving. That a gay character who is rejected by his father due to his faith is a small part of the story and shows the lead characters newly sympathetic mindset. To add Hollywood sociopolitical trans dog whistles and highlight what is a dangerous trend (with many Hollywood stars being the mother of trans- identified children) this is loathsome to me. I am glad you wrote this about this movie, I might have seen it. And now I will not. This is a dangerous idea to popularise.
